Medik Absorb Absorbent Lap Sponges

Laparotomy sponges are manufactured by folding absorbent gauze swabs to the required size and securely stitching all four sides, with loose ends folded inward to prevent linting. They are available with or without X-ray detectable threads to support intraoperative detection when required. A braided cotton tape is attached at one end of the sponge to facilitate handling and retrieval during surgical procedures. Each sponge that is clean and free from physical defects is reinforced with two cross stitches at the center to maintain structural integrity during use.

Laparotomy sponges are widely used in surgical procedures for wound cleaning and absorption of blood and other secretions. After sterilization, they are also used for gripping, protecting, and retracting organs and tissues during surgery, helping to maintain a clear operative field and reduce the risk of retained surgical items.
